During the FET phase of schooling, all students do either Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy. While there is a certain degree of choice in this matter, the policy at Boston Private School is as follows:

  • Any student who achieves more than 50% for their Grade 9 promotion mark may choose to study Mathematics.
  • Any student who achieves between 40% and 50% in Grade 9 is strongly recommended to study Mathematical Literacy. If the student wishes to continue with Mathematics, the following provisos need to be met:
    • The student must attend a minimum of two Maths Reinforcement sessions every week.
    • The student must achieve a passing grade in the Grade 10 mid-year examinations.
  • Any student who achieves less than 40% in Grade 9 has failed to meet the requirements to proceed to Grade 10. The school may decide to allow the student to move to Grade 10, but the student may only study Mathematical Literacy.
  • Any students who wish to study Accounting or Physical Science in the FET phase are required to study Mathematics.
